Mildred Morrow Swafford “Nanny”, 95, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on July 1, 2025. She was born on March 10, 1930, in Riceville, TN as the first daughter of Curl Parker Morrow and Martha Calista Morrow. She married her husband in 1947 and moved with him to Huntsville, Alabama, in 1959. She was a faithful member of Meadow Drive Baptist Church and later, University Baptist Church. She devoted her life to serving God in her care for her family and the many, many small children that she provided care for in her home daycare.
She enjoyed traveling, reading, clogging, gardening, needlework, and fun times with her family. She was a stubborn and independent woman, managing her home, business, and life on her own for many years.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 40 years, Colonel Lee Swafford; her daughter, Norma Swafford Grady; her granddaughter, Sheila Smith; 3 sisters, Shirley Hickman, Willie Alma Lyle, and Eula Ann Sheppard; 4 brothers, James Frances Morrow, Willard Dean Morrow, George Arnold Morrow, and Robert Franklin Morrow; and 7 half-brothers and half-sisters, Vinie Bell Morrow Crittenden, Estelle (Blondie) Morrow, Grady Lee Morrow, Leona Morrow Nichlos, James Nelson Morrow, Curl Parker Morrow Jr., and Charles (Cotton) Lester Morrow.
She is survived by her sisters, Faye Hicks, Juanita (Sterling) Womac, Sue (Larry) Holder; her daughters, Jo (Bruce) Mitchell, Glenda (Walt) Anderson, Kim (Tim) Sharp, and niece/daughter Wanda Swafford; 9 grandchildren, Will (Julia) Mitchell, Parker (Maggie) Mitchell, Kate (Anthony) Tinsley, Marissa Anderson Weir, Ranger (Charlene) Grady, Paige (Sherwood) Gay, Cassie (Brandon) Tucker, Beth (Jon) Belyeu, Wes Sharp; 9 great-grandchildren, Tori Grady (William) Boltinhouse, Ashley Grady, Jackson Westbrook, Evelyn Mitchell, Virginia Mitchell, Rylie Weir, Aspen Mabes, Amelia Weir, Ricker Belyeu, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
