Peggy Townley Elliott, 77, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully with family at her side on February 28, 2026, following a brief battle with cancer.
Peggy was born January 14, 1949, in Atlanta, Georgia, the daughter of the late Grayce and Robert Townley. She moved with her family to Huntsville in 1958 and graduated from Huntsville High School in 1967. She was preceded in death by her sister, Shatteena (Teena) Dennie, and is survived by her sister, Lisa Townley.
Peggy was formerly married to Cal Elliott, who predeceased her; they were married for 44 years and together raised their three daughters. She was the proud mother of Amy Curry; Connie McClure (Bruce McClure); and Ashlee Marshall (Johnathan Marshall). She leaves eight grandchildren—Katelyn Conner; Kelly Morrow (Hunter Morrow); Shelby Creel; Thomas Creel (Kelby Creel); Craig Conner (Lexi Conner); Brock Creel (Anna Creel); Charlie Marshall; and Andy Marshall—four great‑grandchildren: Weston Cole, Collier Creel, Miller Morrow and Baylor Conner; and two step‑great‑grandchildren, Chesney Lowery and Walker Lowery.
She worked many years in retail and later served as a receptionist in the pediatrics division at UAB Medicine Huntsville, from which she retired. Peggy was always tender-hearted and generous with her time taking care of those in need. She loved dancing, tending her garden (she took great pride in her yard), playing pickleball with friends, and celebrating life’s moments with family. A very talented seamstress, she often combined her creativity and sewing skills with home‑improvement projects—making curtains and sewing clothing for her daughters when they were young. Recently she enjoyed relaxing and talking with her sister Lisa by the pool at Lisa’s home. Warm, fun‑loving, and outgoing, she lived a life full of contentment and treasured time with friends and family.
A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. (come and go) in the Conservatory at Huntsville Botanical Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Peggy’s favorite charity.
