Nearah Rebecca Lee-Schaffner went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 24, 2022.  She was born in Purvis, MS on May 22, 1938 to Carlos Evon Lee and Claudia Mae Simmons-Lee, the youngest of 11 children born to that marriage along with three older step sisters from her dad’s first wife.

She studied at Perkinston Junior College where she met her husband and attended both Mississippi State University and the Baptist College in Charleston, focusing her studies on Economics. She also pursued a career in Real Estate and was a successful agent and broker. Along with her studies and strong business pursuits, she was an avid tennis player, gardener and fulfilled a strong supporting role to her husband in his business career.

She was not only a very successful business woman, but a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. Rebecca was always ready to travel and spend time with her family. Her devotion to her family allowed her children to pursue their careers while she assisted with caring for the grandchildren. Her love for her family and country also showed in her community service. She served on community boards and nonprofits while organizing and assisting with any activities that her family was involved in, including managing recent local farmers markets.

Along with her family, Rebecca was also devoted to serving the Lord and loved her church. With their move to the Huntsville area, Brownsboro Baptist Church gave her a loving home and place to worship.  Another important aspect of her life was her love of her country. Her family members have served this country for over 150 years and she served through support of family and working civil service jobs at several military bases.

She leaves behind a loving and adoring husband of 60 years of marriage, Philip MacKenzie Schaffner, two children, son John Philip Schaffner, wife Amy and 3 children, MacKenzie, Lang and Cameron, and daughter, Suzanne Lee Schaffner-Bryer, husband Paul and their two children, Lee Caroline and Allison.  She is preceded in death by her great granddaughter Ava.
