Robert Hayes Obituary

Doyle Hayes passed away Sunday, Father's Day, June 21, 2020 at his home after spending his last several weeks surrounded by family and friends.
Doyle was born February 7, 1940 in Three Creeks, Ark., to Pink and Clytee Hayes. He was the 3rd of 4 children. He was attending LSU when he was set up on his only blind date, with his lifelong sweetheart, Phyllis Catanzaro. They shared 62 wonderful years together.
Doyle is survived by his wife Phyllis, daughters Janice (Michael "T.J")Sullenger, Jeannie Hayes, Jodie Kinney, extended daughter Michelle Piscitello, son Robby (Susan)Hayes, grandchildren Dustin(Liz)Ober, Ryan(Carlie) Dalton, Tiffany(Ryan)Bates, Briley Chambers, Austin Hayes, Addy Kinney, Chaney Kinney, great grandchildren Jonathan and Catherine Ober, Rylynn Bates, Kinsley Dalton, brother Terry(Vickie)Hayes, sister Melrose Lucas, and of course his beloved pup Bella. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Juanita Parker, and brother in law James Lucas.
If you asked 100 people who Doyle Hayes was, they would all give different answers. A gambler, beach bum, the shortest man in the world. He was none of these. What he was, was a storyteller. From the time he was a young boy he was constantly coming up with a story to make you laugh. No matter the occasion, Doyle had a story!!
We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Doyle during his 80 years. Among them "Never hide your own Easter eggs"!!
If he could of been playing poker, on a golf course, beside the ocean, while smoking a cigar, no one would of ever seen him again. Lol. And though he wasn't able to smoke a cigar or play golf in his last 20 years, or find a good poker game, he and Phyllis did spend the month of November at the beach for the last 10 years. She in the condo cleaning shells, he on the beach finding more shells for her to clean!
He loved life, he loved his family, and he loved to be funny. There was never a dull moment with him. Jokes, inappropriate comments whispered at the wrong place or time, and made up stories, such as walking 10 miles to school every day, barefoot, through 10 foot of snow!!
His happiness was making others happy. His daily Facebook jokes were loved by many. He would get up by 4a.m to post a joke to make sure he could start everyone's day off with a smile. He was a precious man who left his mark on everyone he met. He always helped those who needed it, offered words of wisdom and a shoulder to lean on. Doyle was one of a kind, a hero to many, and loved by all. He will be greatly missed.
A special thank you goes out to Hospice of N. Alabama, especially Adam and Patsy, for their loving care and support during his final weeks, to the people at Spry Funeral Home, for being so accommodating and understanding during this difficult time. And to his "other wife", as he jokingly called her, Alecia Klinner, close family friend, and best friend Barney Lopez, who told jokes just as corny as his.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 25, viewing being from 11 til noon, and mass/ service at noon, held also at Spry Funeral Home.
