Roger Dyer Anderson, beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025, at the age of 88.
Born in English, West Virginia, to John Jess Anderson and Juanita Edith Anderson, Roger grew up in Bluefield, Virginia, as the devoted “big brother” to his siblings. At just 17 years old, he courageously joined the United States Navy, despite not knowing how to swim. He served his country with honor and carried that same sense of duty and resilience throughout his life.
After his service, Roger spent nearly 50 years driving an 18-wheeler for Bowman, Old Dominion, and Titan. Known by his CB handle “Big Foot,” he logged millions of “safe” miles on the open road. Off the highway, he found peace in fishing, happily spending hours by the water, whether or not the fish were biting.
During his years in Huntsville, Alabama, Roger remained a devoted Christian, faithfully attending Whitesburg Baptist Church. His church community was an important part of his life, providing him with strength, comfort, and fellowship. He never missed saying a blessing before meals, a reflection of his gratitude and devotion.
Roger was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores, and by his cherished stepdaughters, Linda and Brenda, who he loved as his own and who cared for him faithfully in his later years. He is survived by his siblings, Frank Anderson, Elwood Porshia, and Janice Porshia Wert.
Roger’s life was marked by service, devotion, faith, and love. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
