Shelby Jean Smithey-Mullins, lovingly known as "Maggie" to her friends and "Great" to her grandchildren, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, at the age of 82. She was born on December 24, 1942, in Huntsville, Alabama (Madison County), to the late Zelma Bailey and Ollie Smithey.
Shelby's life was filled with love, strength, and devotion to her family. She was a proud mother of five children: Belinda Jean Stapler, Ronny Mullins Sr. (Kimberly Mullins), Lisa Renee Mullins, the late Cecil Rayford Mullins, and Kimberly Ann Mullins Dorsett (Martin Dorsett), and her great-grandson, Zachary Ray Roland Jr., whom she lovingly raised and who called her "Mommy."Her family grew to include many who adored her— grandchildren Buford Hillis Jr. (deceased), Brandy Mullins, Gidget Mullins, Nikki Mullins, Ronny Mullins Jr. (Sheree Tate), Douglas Roark Jr.(Maggie Roark), Kimberly "Josie" Muir (Tyler Muir), Kenneth Roark (Megan Roark), Cindy Holman (Andre Holman), Kevin Roark, Jessica Mullins, and James Stubblefield. Shelby was also blessed with 42 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren. Shelby was one of nine siblings: TJ Smithey, Ollie Smithey, Genell Short, Bill Smithey, Al Smithey, Jimmie Lambert (Richard), Ann Durham, and Opel Larkin. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings except for Jimmie Lambert, Ann Durham, and Opel Larkin, who survive her.
Shelby, or "Maggie," will be remembered for her kind heart, her humor, and her unwavering love for her family. She cherished every moment spent surrounded by those she loved and left behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and devotion that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A service to honor her life will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate the beautiful life of a woman whose love touched so many.
