Shirley Jean Yell, 91, of Huntsville, AL went home to be with the Lord on March 18, 2026, at home surrounded by her children. She was born on October 10, 1934, to Loyas and Marjorie Branum in Huntsville, AL. She married the love of her life and husband of fifty-three years, Roy Yell, in 1953.
Shirley worked for Sears for 30 years, but her life was centered on, and she delighted in her children, and family. Her love for the Lord shaped her character and was the source of her inner strength. That strength allowed her to lovingly and sacrificially care for her husband until his death in 2007. She had a lifelong love for all of God's creatures, but was passionate about her horses, cows, her beloved cockatoo, Mikey, and various other pets. Shirley's incredible creativity is displayed in the countless expertly crafted quilts she has constructed throughout her lifetime, which her family dearly cherishes.
Our beloved mother was preceded in death by her mother and father Loyas and Marjorie E. Branum, her infant sister, Marjorie C. Branum, and her husband, Roy Yell. She is survived by her children, Eddie (Prissy) Yell, Teresa Day, and Mona (Jimbo) Stolz; three grandchildren, Cheree (Shad) Hastings, Amanda (Richard) Ramhold and Anthony (Emily) Smithwick; six great-grandchildren, Trey (Sierra) Hastings, Jonathan Hastings, Annabella Ramhold, Abigail Hardin, Jackson Hastings, and Skyler Ramhold; as well as two great-great-grandchildren, Kozic Hastings and Annastasia Ramhold.
Visitation services will be held at Spry Funeral Home on Sunday, March 22, 2026 from 1:00pm-2:00pm, funeral service at 2:00 pm with the burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
