Stephen Barry Furin, a longtime resident of Huntsville, AL, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on October 7, 2025, at the age of 81.
Steve is survived by his wife, Jeannie Furin (Landers), his son, Stephen Matthew Furin, and his mother-in-law Peggy Thompson. He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen Aurelius Furin, and mother, Theresa Furin (Condi), and his brother, Bernard Furin.
Steve was born in Uniontown, PA on June 8, 1944, to Stephen & Theresa Furin. He served in the US Army and attended Penn State with a degree in Chemical Engineering. For 40 years, he worked in Huntsville, AL in the Metrology Lab for the US Army on Redstone Arsenal. On November 13, 1976, Steve married the love of his life Jeannie. On April 23, 1980, they welcome their only son, Matthew, who quickly became his pride and joy.
As a child, he began his lifelong enjoyment of model trains. Steve became a huge Auburn fan after moving to Alabama while always saving a few cheers for Penn State. He also couldn’t resist “sneaking” a few bites of his food to the family dogs whenever he thought no one was looking. Around the house, there was no problem he couldn’t solve, especially if they were an excuse for a trip to Harbor Freight or Home Depot. He treasured vacations with his family and was always looking forward to their next trip. Steve deeply cherished his church family at Willowbrook, especially the Lighthouse Class members and looked forward to every Sunday School class and Sunday evening dinner. He was honored to serve as a chef for the Keenagers monthly meals and arrange presentations and trips for the group.
Visitation will be held at Willowbrook Baptist Church in Huntsville, AL on Friday, October 10th at 11:30 AM with the funeral service to follow at 1:30 PM. Pastor Mark Smith will officiate. A graveside service will follow at Huntsville Memory Gardens on University Dr.
