Sylvia Weight

Sylvia Weight, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away suddenly from a heart attack on February 27, 2020, in Madison, Alabama.
Born November 17, 1951, in Springville, Utah, the daughter of the late Paul Willis Weight and Carol Johnson Weight.   She spent her early years in Springville and Tremonton, Utah, and lived the last fifteen years in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Sylvia’s favorite memories centered around her time spent with family.  She especially enjoyed when she had all three of her children together.  She found joy in her grandchildren.  Many happy memories were made with family.   We all enjoyed her wonderful smile and big dimples.
Later in life, Sylvia worked hard to get her masters degree in social work so she could continue to care for and love people, which she did so well.  She spent the last twenty years of her life working for the State of Utah where she met many people and changed many lives.   She was very grateful for the experiences she had and friendships she made there.
Sylvia also enjoyed any opportunity to travel and create new memories.  She especially enjoyed her trips abroad to China and Europe.  She was looking forward to a family reunion trip to Utah for spring break and a trip in June to Japan to celebrate her grandson’s graduation from high school.  
She recently moved to Alabama following her retirement from the State of Utah in November.  With her golden years ahead of her, she spent the last three months attending piano lessons, Broadway plays, dentist appointments, girls’ nights out,  movie nights, driver’s license testing, and birthday parties.  She missed her family and friends in Utah, but was enjoying her new home and retirement. 
 She is survived by her three children, Buffy (Samuel) Walker, of Madison, AL;  Paul (Melinda) Wood, of Ogden, UT; and Ronald (Veronica) Ritter, of Ogden, UT.  She will be dearly missed by her seven grandchildren, Paul (Carlie) Wood Jr.;  Ethan, Ryan, Molly and Grace Walker; Carol and Otto Ritter; and one great grandchild, Ash Wood.
She is also survived by her two sisters and one brother, Kathleen (Lynn) Blakely; Paula Urrabazo; and Ace (Lisa) Weight.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held in Utah on March 28th with details following when available.
