Mr. Thurmen Mason McCormick, 87, of Huntsville passed away at his home Tuesday, January 14, 2020. Mr. McCormick was born February 10, 1932 in the Cloud’s Cove community of New Hope, Madison County to Rufus Andrew McCormick and Evie Rosalee Mayo McCormick. He served in the Army in Korea during the Korean War as a truck driver and road builder for the Army Engineering Unit. He spent his career as a truck driver for Gordon’s Transport. He and the late Clara Odessa Stanley McCormick had been married for 47 years when she passed in 1998. In earlier years he enjoyed hunting, repairing cars and was a skilled handy-man. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and attending senior citizen dances. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by sons: Steve (Vickie) McCormick, Dale McCormick, Mike (Christy) McCormick, Joe McCormick; daughter Adonna (Vince) Melton, four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara McCormick, son Kenneth McCormick, parents Rufus and Evie McCormick, brothers Edward McCormick and Gordon McCormick.
A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2020 at Maple Hill Cemetery, Huntsville, Al with Brother Spencer Hardiman officiating and Spry Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be John McCormick, Joe McCormick, Jason McCormick, Jeremy McCormick, Tim McCormick and Andrew McCormick. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or Wounded Warriors Project.
