Timothy Sutherland Obituary

Timothy William Sutherland, age 62, of Madison, Alabama, passed unexpectedly on May 31, 2026. Born on August 17, 1963, in Dearborn, Michigan, to William and Nancy Sutherland, Tim was a loving husband, devoted father and “PawPaw” to his grandchildren, a community leader, and a successful sales executive in the technology sector.

Tim attended Hillsdale College on a football scholarship, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Management with a minor in Physics. He later attended Bowling Green State University, earning his Master of Business Administration.

Growing up in Taylor, Michigan, alongside his brother Keith and sisters Deanna and Jennifer, Tim was an older brother and protector from an early age. He developed a lifelong passion for sports, continuing through college and coaching teams for his sons Taylor and Troy at every opportunity.

Tim began his career with Dana Corporation, which brought him to Birmingham, Alabama, where he met the love of his life, Mary Anne at a bar called Cheers. Their life together included moves across the country for his career, living in Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, North Carolina, Michigan, and Wisconsin before finally settling back in Alabama in 2001. That same year, Tim founded Current Circuits in North Alabama, which he led before continuing his career as a sales and operations executive in the technology and manufacturing industries. His work took him around the world, collaborating with clients and colleagues from Singapore to New York. He built a reputation as a global growth and strategy leader, culminating in his most recent role as Head of Sales for the Americas at Flex Ltd. Outside of his career, Tim also devoted time to the next generation, teaching Marketing at the University of Alabama in Huntsville in the evenings.

Tim was married to his wife Mary Anne for 39 years. Together they built a beautiful family that included their two sons and three grandchildren: Emmie (7), Charles (4), and Mary (1 month). He loved his family deeply and found joy in simple moments—playing in the pool, coaching his children’s sports teams, and being present at every stage of their lives. Even during extensive international travel, he never missed one of his children’s games. On top of his children and grandchildren, he was extremely close to his three siblings and his seven nephews.

Tim enjoyed traveling with Mary Anne and spending time with family. He was a selfless father and friend, often the life of the party, and a steady source of strength in difficult times. His leadership was evident both in the boardroom and at home. He was a pillar of support for his siblings, especially following the passing of both of their parents.

Tim leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and generosity. He taught his children the importance of always ending conversations with “I love you,” and he never hesitated to express pride in those around him. He lived as a provider and problem solver, always ready with encouragement, guidance, or a helping hand.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Nancy Sutherland. He is survived by his wife Mary Anne; his children Taylor and Troy; his three grandchildren; and his siblings Keith, Deanna, and Jennifer, who will continue to carry forward his legacy. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, mentor, and leader.

Tim will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony. A celebration of life will be held at The Ledges on June 5 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His family and friends will continue to honor his memory and carry forward the legacy of a life well lived.
