Velma Ann Howell, age 83, passed away in the early morning of Saturday, February 16, 2019 in Spring Hill, Tennessee. She was the 4th child born to Edward and Kittie (Linder) Wilhite in San Bernardino, California. Velma met her eternal sweetheart, Parley LaMoine Howell, while he was serving a church mission in her hometown. They were married after his mission release in Los Angeles, California on May 11, 1956. Together they raised 5 amazing children. Velma’s life focus was always God and her family. Throughout her life she served in numerous church leadership positions including Assistant Temple Matron of the Atlanta, Georgia Temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the Mission President’s Wife in the New York, New York North Mission, both of which she served alongside her beloved husband. She loved working with the youth and Young Single Adults, who she taught for many years. She loved learning and studying, particularly gospel topics. She loved people and was always a gracious host to all who came into her home. She had a great sense of humor. Her enveloping love and contagious laugh will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Velma is survived by her dear husband, Parley LaMoine Howell, her 5 children, Lori (David) Deitrick, Marc (Laurie) Howell, Scott (Diane) Howell, Kim (John) Green, James (Chelsea) Howell, 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, her brother Donald (Geri) Wilhite, her sister LaRue Gibson and her brother Wilbur (Louise) Wilhite. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Richard Wilhite and her grandson Gavin Howell.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 6:30pm at 2998 Commonwealth Dr. in Spring Hill, Tennessee. The funeral service will be held at 11:30am on Friday February 22, 2019 at 11:30am at 2110 Byrd Springs Rd SW, Huntsville, Alabama. Interment will follow the funeral Service at Valhalla Memory Gardens, 698 Winchester Rd. Huntsville, Alabama.
The family will greet friends at a viewing on Friday, February 22, 2019 from 10:00am to 11:00am at 2110 Byrd Springs Rd. Huntsville, Alabama.
