William Stephen Evans

William S. Evans passed away Wednesday September 22, 2021 at Shepherd's Cove Hospice, after a long battle with dementia. William (Bill) was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Lula Evans, wife M. Nell Evans, his grandson Christopher J. Wheeler, his brother Robert H. Evans, his sisters Mable Rogers and Capitola McDonald. He is survived by his daughter Anita Ferris. As a child, Bill picked cotton in the fields of Hazel Green, AL, which motivated him to work himself through electrical engineering school as an LPN at a mental hospital in Minnesota. Bill went on to become a skilled technician and cameraman for WHNT television station on Monte Sano Mountain in Huntsville, AL. After finding his beautiful wife for life, Bill settled into a federal job of his dreams, and completed 28 years in Civil Service for the Department of the Army, Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL. While holding a full time job, Bill made time for ministry at the Madison County Jail in Huntsville, AL and had his own self-funded Gospel radio show “The Moment of Decision” at WBHP in Huntsville, AL. Bill was always enthusiastic about sharing the Gospel throughout his entire life. There’s no telling how many inmates he baptized. He loved to help others. To quote him, “we are commanded to love one another”. Upon retiring, Bill worked in hospital Security for Marshall Medical Center North in Scant City, AL for another four years. After the passing of his wife and grandson, William moved in with his daughter and son-in-law in Boaz. Bill also attended Crestview church of Christ.

Mr. Evans will be interred along side his loving wife at Gatlin Cemetery, Ardmore, AL. on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at 2:00pm.
