Dear Ratliff family,
We mourn the loss of Ed Ratliff with you and rejoice in his life and legacy. My family is particularly grateful for his faith and influence in our lives and especially the lives of my grandparents Isidore and Roberta Friedman.
Shortly after my grandfather Isidore Friedman was baptized in 1971, he felt overwhelmed with work and chores around the house. He decided to skip Church to work on the large garden they had at the home on Bel Air Road. Ed stopped by the house immediately after Church to check on his friend. He did not say anything. He simply removed his suit coat and started helping in the garden. As a result, my grandpa never missed Church again because of the love and example of Ed Ratliff.
Fast forward to 2003, my dad Robert Mathews went to the mortuary to dress my grandfather in preparation for the funeral. He expected to do the task alone, but when he arrived Ed Ratliff was there waiting. Ed was my grandfather’s loyal friend and mentor from the day he was baptized to the day he died.
We thank God for sending a man like Ed Ratliff to my grandparents to be a lifelong friend to continually strengthen and nourish them in the faith for over 30 years. Ed was a man full of faith - a true Saint - that has blessed lives for generations.
