Bertie Lou Henshaw Stapler, 78, of New Market entered into eternal rest on Thursday at her residence after an extended illness.

Mrs. Stapler had an expansive career, working in insurance and doctor offices, and most recently as a librarian aide at Riverton Elementary School from which she retired in 2010, due to her declining health.  She was a faithful member of the Riverton Holiness Church and enjoyed travelling, shopping, and spending time with her family.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira Emmett and Nannie Jacks Hinshaw; siblings, Epsie Bird, Mary Long, Lawson Hinshaw,Lester Henshaw, Ray Henshaw, and Dean Young; and one grandson, Michael Stapler.

Mrs. Stapler is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Luther E. Stapler; children, Dean & Susan Stapler, Pamela & Ronald Byrd, Rodney Stapler, and Jimmy Stapler; sisters, Opal Craig and Fay Lohenitz; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchldren; and a host of extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 8pm Saturday at Spry Funeral Home, and again from 11-2 Sunday at the Big Cove Free Holiness Church.  The funeral will be held Sunday at 2 o'clock at the Big Cove Free Holiness Church with Bro. William Cantrell and Bro. Shannon Byrd officiating.  Mrs. Stapler will lie in state at the church beginning at 11 o'clock on Sunday.  IInterment will follow in Green Valley Cemetery in Big Cove.
